Jesus Had the Birthday

JESUS HAD THE BIRTHDAY

By George Thurlow

©️December 20, 2023

Jesus had the birthday

But man received the Gift

Christ came unto this sinful world

To rectify the rift.

He came to restore relationship

Destroyed by sin and shame

Through His death and resurrection

By the power of that great name.

Jesus had the birthday

But man received the Gift

Liberation from the devil’s grip

Out of hopelessness to lift.

He was born to bring salvation

At a great and costly price

Paying the penalty for our sins

Sacrifing His own life.

Jesus Had the birthday

You too can receive this Gift

By opening up your heart to Him

His Blood will mend the rift.

Romans 10:9-13

That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

Radiant For Jesus

 While sitting at the fog bound shore this morning the Holy Ghost put these words in my spirit.  I felt led to share them…

RADIANT FOR JESUS

By George Thurlow

October 5, 2023

Radiant for Jesus

Is this morning’s prayer

Reflecting the light of His mercy

To those foundering in despair.

Believers are epistles

Known and read of men

Shining forth in darkness

To those fog bound deep in sin.

My life is like a lighthouse

Beaming forth the Light

Of Christ’s Glorious Gospel

For those groping in the night.

May His light be ever gleaming

Deep within my heart

As I linger in His presence

Where I’ll never loose my spark.

Living Water

 LIVING WATER

By George Thurlow

©️May 25, 1997

Bubbling up and spilling o’er;

Joy bestowed forever more:

Welling up from deep within

In this child set free from sin.

In the Spirit I sing and pray;

Forgetting the hour and time of day.

Alone with Christ my dearest friend,

The Paraclete, my soul attends.

Lost in a world of love and warmth;

Forsaking selfish cares and wants.

Death to self brings joyous gain,

And a blessed walk on a higher plain.

Never thirsty nor parched again;

There’s a perpetual fountain deep within.

The river of life renews my soul

As long as the Comforter has control.

John 7: 37-39

In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.

He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.

 (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)

John 4:14

“But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.”

Revelation 21:6 - And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely.

Isaiah 44:3 - For I will pour water upon him that is thirsty, and floods upon the dry ground: I will pour my spirit upon thy seed, and my blessing upon thine offspring:

Isaiah 55:1

“Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters, and he that hath no money; come ye, buy, and eat; yea, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price.”

The Path of the King’s Highway

 THE PATH OF THE KING’S HIGHWAY

By George Thurlow

©️July 5, 1999

Sometimes in this life

There are troubles and strife;

You are burdened down with cares.

But just look to the Cross,

And compare the cost,

Then your load’s not too heavy to bear.

The road to Calvary was lonely and cruel,

But the Savior went all the way.

By example He led,

And we too must tread

The path of the King’s Highway.

In the darkest of nights

You still have the Light.

Through the tears you are able to see:

The Lord on the Cross,

Who paid the great cost,

Now bearing the burden for thee.

Someday round the bend

The journey will end.

Ahead, your first glimpse of home.

The Savior to meet, and  loved ones to greet,

All there to welcome you home.

The road to Glory was rocky and rough

Yet Christ went with you all the way.

By example He led,

And you too had to tread the path of the Kings Highway.

georgethurlow.blogspot.com

Isaiah 35:8-10

And an highway shall be there, and a way, and it shall be called The way of holiness; the unclean shall not pass over it; but it shall be for those: the wayfaring men, though fools, shall not err therein. No lion shall be there, nor any ravenous beast shall go up thereon, it shall not be found there; but the redeemed shall walk there: and the ransomed of the LORD shall return, and come to Zion with songs and everlasting joy upon their heads: they shall obtain joy and gladness, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away.

Coming In Clouds of Glory

 NEW POEM THIS MORNING

We sing the chorus at Faith Lighthouse “I’m longing for Jesus to Come Back”. That song and yearning for Christ’s appearing is on my heart so strongly this morning. The Holy Ghost blessed me with the words for another poem as I sit here at the shore in thick fog with distant thundering. Sharing it with you below:

COMING IN CLOUDS OF GLORY

By George Thurlow

August 30, 2023

Christ’s coming in clouds of glory

In the same manner He went away;

Are you watching for Him?

Are you yearning for that day?

Are you steadfast in the faith since saved?

Do you fast and pray and tell,

The Good News of the Gospel

That will save a soul from hell?

Are you striving to be ready,

Keeping your garments white…

Forsaking earthly pleasures

Diligent for what’s right?

Do you occupy intently

And refrain from idleness?

Are you seeking first the Kingdom

And all God’s righteousness?

Christ’s coming in clouds of glory

Are you listening for the shout

And the sounding of the trumpet

That will call Believers out!

georgethurlow.blogspot.com

1 Thessalonians 4:16-18

For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore comfort one another with these words.

Roadblocks

 ROADBLOCKS

By George Thurlow

April 24, 1999

Why hinder ye the Spirit,

Why shut the Spirit out,

And block those heavenly blessings

Through worry, fear and doubt?

Can not our God be trusted,

Are not the Scriptures true,

Will God not accomplish

All He said He’d do?

Sometimes our words and actions

Leave scarcely any trace

And are surely not a witness

To our Pentecostal faith.

Oh the miracles that would happen

If we would just believe,

But we focus on the negative

Then the Holy Spirit grieve.

We applaud the devil

With our murmurs and complaints,

 And allow him to gain victory

Over God’s own saints.

Get back in heavenly places

And leave the world behind.

 Receive a new perspective

Through the renewing of our minds.

For we are children of the King

All is possible with faith.

We’ve been given all the power

To run this earthly race.

Let’s stop hindering the Spirit

And let Him have His way.

Bring down those negative roadblocks

That obstruct us when we pray.

Don’t Keep the Faith

 DON’T KEEP THE FAITH

By George Thurlow

May 9, 1999

Don’t keep the faith my brother

Faith is meant to give away.

Don’t keep the Good News to yourself

Souls perish everyday.

Pass and spread the Word along

To all you chance to meet:

For you have the answer

To misery and defeat.

You hold a priceless road map;

It’s direction for the lost.

Don’t hide it under lock and key

Remember what it cost!

You have the power to rescue

The dying with your lips.

Don’t delay or hesitate

While harvest time exists.

Don’t keep the faith my sister

For you can save a life.

Share the Gospel message

Salvation through Jesus Christ.

Pluck Out the “I”

PLUCK OUT THE “I”

By George Thurlow

May 5, 1999

Lord I give myself to you,

Cause my will to die.

Place your Spirit in me

As I pluck out the “I”.

The rooms of my heart I give to you,

Even the Master key.

Do a thorough sweeping;

Get rid of all debris.

Cleanse me of all selfishness,

Stubbornness and pride.

Miss no nook or cranny

Where “I” can crouch and hide.

My body will be your Temple;

Come and dwell in me.

United by your Spirit,

I’ll be at one with thee.

The Conversion of Zacchaeus

 The Conversion of Zacchaeus

By George Thurlow

April 13, 1999

He was an earnest seeker

Searching for something more;

When the crowd was pressed against him

He climbed a sycamore.

Through his perseverance

His life would change that day;

He made himself available

When the Lord would pass that way.

Obstacles couldn’t beset him;

He overcame them all.

He was accessible to the Master

When his name was called.

Though Zacchaeus was a sinner

He was eager to repent;

And to restore what he had stolen

With joy he gave assent.

He had the honor of hosting the Savior

Who at his house did stay;

And salvation came upon his home

On that blessed day.

Even now the Christ Jesus

In the crowd is seeking you;

And calling for the lost sheep

While He is passing through.

Just reach out to the Master

And call upon His name;

He is sure to save you

Like Zacchaeus will do the same.

georgethurlow.blogspot.com

Luke 19:1-10

And Jesus entered and passed through Jericho. And, behold, there was a man named Zacchæus, which was the chief among the publicans, and he was rich. And he sought to see Jesus who he was; and could not for the press, because he was little of stature. And he ran before, and climbed up into a sycamore tree to see him: for he was to pass that way. And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up, and saw him, and said unto him, Zacchæus, make haste, and come down; for to day I must abide at thy house. And he made haste, and came down, and received him joyfully. And when they saw it, they all murmured, saying, That he was gone to be guest with a man that is a sinner. And Zacchæus stood, and said unto the Lord; Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor; and if I have taken any thing from any man by false accusation, I restore him fourfold. And Jesus said unto him, This day is salvation come to this house, forsomuch as he also is a son of Abraham. For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.

The Joy of My Life

 The Joy of My Life 🙌

By George Thurlow

©️August 5, 1999

The Joy of my life is Jesus

Who plucked me from the grave:

And from a life of misery,

He graciously did save.

His love was unconditional

Though my heart was black with sin.

He didn’t turn His back on me,

But drew me close to Him.

Compassion looked beyond the filth,

And He saw what I could be:

With just a thorough cleansing

There was potential still in me.

He removed the filthy rags

And clothed me in His best;

Wrapped me in Heaven’s finest,

His own righteousness.

Inside He placed a brand new heart

My frown became a grin.

All day I sing His praises

For I owe my joy to Him.

georgethurlow.blogspot.com

Isaiah 64:6

“But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags;

Isaiah 61:10

“I will greatly rejoice in the Lord; my soul shall exult in my God, for he has clothed me with the garments of salvation; he has covered me with the robe of righteousness…”

A Pig is a Pig

 A PIG IS A PIG 🐷

By George Thurlow

©️September 29, 1999

A pig is a pig

Even if you clean him up

For when you turn your back

On garbage he will sup.

Rooting in the mud

Amidst the muck and mire,

A pig is a pig

No matter how attired.

He only does what’s natural

Through the leading of his heart;

A pig is a pig

From filth he can’t depart.

And sin is sin

Though attractive it may be;

All the paint and glitter

Can’t hide a thing from Thee.

When in our hearts we know what’s right

Yet choose to go our way,

To God it is rebellion

We have sinned and disobeyed.

Sin is sin

Even if we rationalize

Sin can not be hidden

From our Maker’s eyes.

georgethurlow.blogspot.com

Inspired by Pastor Merle L. Mitchell’s message given in the morning service 9/26/1999 and the words spoken: “A pig is a pig no matter how you dress him up.”

2 Peter 2:22

“But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire.”

James 4:17

“Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.”

Abba Father

 ABBA FATHER

By George Thurlow

©️March 3, 1998

To God’s mighty throne room

I boldly draw up near;

Knowing by invitation

I am welcome here.

I do not shake and tremble.

I don’t approach with dread,

But with excited anticipation

And confidence instead.

I count it all a privilege.

I am so thankful deep inside,

That I have a Father

Who’s attentive to my cries.

I haven’t reached perfection,

But He looks upon my heart.

He sees the finished product

And grace and loves imparts.

I approach God as my Father

Who only wants my best.

I give Him all my troubles,

And He grants peace and rest.

Each day I dwell in security,

Every happening He regards.

I know He’ll never fail me

For His angels watch and guard.

He’s placed a hedge about me,

The line of Christ’s own Blood:

And the Spirit lifts up a standard

Surging like a flood.

I’m so thankful for my Father

Who even when I fail:

Helps me to my feet again,

His love for me prevails.

Fire Power

FIRE POWER 🔥

By George Thurlow

©️July 30, 1996

No fireman in God’s Kingdom

For the fire is meant to spread.

God wants hearts with flaming passion

To work for Him instead.

He needs those who are lit with burning souls;

Who will fan the flame:

To carry the torch to the dying world

And to glorify His name.

He doesn’t want fire extinguishers

Who will snuff out the blaze,

Or those who flicker then smolder

Turn to ash near the end of the race.

He desires not the burnt out

All the ones who have lost their spark.

He prefers those brightly glowing

Faithful to do their part.

God’s not pleased with dying embers,

But crackling, roaring fires:

Lighting up the darkened world

For saving souls aspire.

My friend He is calling to you and me

To “Be filled with the Holy Ghost”.

It’s then the flame will be kindled

And through Him accomplish the most.

Let’s not quench the Spirit’s fire,

But let it burn brightly in our souls.

And be about the Great Commission

Under the power of the Holy Ghost.

Acts 1:8

“But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.”

Matthew 28:18-20

And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

Don’t Live Below Your Means

 DON’T LIVE BELOW YOUR MEANS

By George Thurlow

August 2, 1997

No longer will I ever

Live below my means,

As a spiritual pauper,

I’m a child of the King.

No longer will I grovel,

Forage for crumbs and scraps;

I’m now feasting at God’s table

And never again will lack.

Today I claim my inheritance

For the Bible is my will.

I am joint-heir with Jesus

For His precious Blood was spilt.

I’m drinking from a golden cup

Full of sparkling brand new wine,

And I am nourished and I’m strengthened

By abiding in the vine.

I no longer shiver,

I am warmed beneath God’s wing;

And the Spirit’s fire

Provides eternal spring.

I’m no longer clothed in filthy rags,

But the righteousness of Christ.

My past is gone forever,

I have a brand new life.

georgethurlow.blogspot.com

Romans 8:17

“And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.”

John 15:4-5

Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me. I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.

2 Corinthians 5:21

“For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.”

Conquering Spirit

 CONQUERING SPIRIT

By George Thurlow

August 2, 1997

I’ve been given a conquering spirit;

I ‘m no longer powerless:

But I have one of determination

To take action and possess.

Christ’s given me strength for triumph

In the midst of trial and heat.

I’ve been filled with the Holy Spirit

For conquest not defeat.

Christ has gone on before me

Now I follow where He led.

I have authority and power

To trample demon’s heads.

You’ve given me a vision

On which my mind is fixed.

I refuse to retreat or surrender

When the enemy’s already licked.

No reports of giants

Can make me change my mind

For l’ve been given a promise

That victory is all mine.

No obstacle or circumstance

Can bring discouragement or dismay,

For I’m focused on the Savior

My faith won’t waver or sway.

Romans 8:37

Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.

Praying In The Spirit

 PRAYING IN THE SPIRIT

By George Thurlow

©️December 8, 1997

I have never heard your voice Lord,

Yet you whisper in my ear;

And though I have never seen you,

I know that you are near.

When I speak I know you hear me.

You answer in subtle ways;

And confirm your Word within my heart

As the Holy Spirit relays.

In this quiet sanctuary

Your gentle breath I feel.

A current of love engulfs me;

Your presence is so real.

You don’t come to me in thunder

Or the flashing of brilliant light;

Yet I’m energized with power

Through your strength and might.

I know that you pray through me

By the groaning that I hear;

And the way my heart is pleading

And through the trickling of my tears.

Supernaturally, Spirit to spirit

We commune as one:

Since you dwell within me,

Because I am your son.

georgethurlow.blogspot.com

Romans 8:26-27

Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.

Jude 1:20

The Day of Small Things

 THE DAY OF SMALL THINGS

By George Thurlow

©️September 13, 1998

God’s not a respecter of persons

He doesn’t favor those of might;

All His Blood washed children

Are precious in His sight.

All the work that Christ has given

For these hands to do,

Will never be too lowly

For this child to do.

No assignment in His Kingdom

Is too menial for me.

When requested by the Master,

It brings only joy to me.

No work is unimportant

In serving the mighty King,

For my Lord does not despise

The day of small things.

When done in His power and blessing

And performed in His great name;

No task is insignificant

Without value or mundane.

God has chosen the foolish

To confound the wise.

I’d rather be a fool for Jesus

And be valued in His eyes.

Zechariah 4:10

“For who hath despised the day of small things? for they shall rejoice, and shall see the plummet in the hand of Zerubbabel with those seven; they are the eyes of the LORD, which run to and fro through the whole earth.”

1 Corinthians 1:27

“But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;”

Colossians 3:23-24

“And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ.”

Time Will Be No More

 TIME WILL BE NO MORE

By George Thurlow

©️August 17, 1998

There are no clocks in heaven

For time it is no more…

No schedules, dates, or deadlines

Over on the golden shore.

Calendars are not needed,

We’ll need not flip the page

Or punch the office time clock

To receive a weekly wage.

No more the dreadful ringing

Of the alarm to wake us up

Or be stalled in evening traffic

With workers bound for sup.

The cuckoo clock will silence,

There’ll be no tolling of the bell;

We have stepped into eternity

No longer “time will tell”.

*Poem inspired by Rev. Merle L. Mitchell’s

words “There are no clocks in heaven” preached on 8/16/1998 in the evening service at Faith Lighthouse Assembly of God, Old Orchard Beach, Maine.

Keep Me True

 KEEP ME TRUE

By George Thurlow

©️September 8, 1998

If there were heavenly limitations

On how much that one could pray…

If petitions were restricted

To only one a day…

Then the only thing I’d ask for

Is to keep me free from sin,

And to help me lead a holy life

Pleasing unto Him.

I’d only ask to walk with Christ

And to stay right near His side:

Continually in His presence

And under His wings abide.

Many things that I could ask for…

And so much I could pursue,

But my prayer would be dear Jesus

To your name help me stay true.

A Time For Shaking

 A TIME FOR SHAKING

By George Thurlow

©️February 10, 1999

We need a time of shaking …

In our hearts a reawakening…

For we have been forsaking…

What the Lord commands.

All the while that we’ve been snoozing…

The Kingdom has been loosing…

For the blind are wrongly choosing…

Of the devil’s hand.

It’s time we were repenting…

And our knees humbly bending…

So the Lord could do some mending…

In our hearts and lives.

We need to change priorities…

And get under Christ’s authority…

For He’s our only surety…

For all that lies ahead.

Start trusting and obeying…

Spend time each day in praying…

Heed what the Bible’s saying…

And live a holy life.

Then Christ will send His power…

So over the enemy we can tower…

And win souls these final hours…

In glorious victory!

I Would Rather Live By Faith

 I WOULD RATHER LIVE BY FAITH

By George Thurlow

July 19, 1999

I would rather live by faith

In the middle of it all;

Enjoying all the blessings

He promised would befall.

I would rather live by faith

Where His power is displayed,

And bear witness to the miracles

Answered when one prays…

And not be a sorry spectator

Huddled in the stands.

But a player seeing action

Experienced first hand.

I would rather live by faith

And see what will ensue

Through obedience and trusting

There’s no telling what God will do!

Real Men Ask Directions

 REAL MEN ASK DIRECTIONS

By George Thurlow

June 18, 1999

A real man asks directions

On the way that he should go.

He is not proud and haughty;

God’s will he seeks to know.

He never blindly jumps ahead

Stumbling down the trail…

If the Lord does not go with him

All his efforts would surely fail.

But he consults a roadmap,

The written Word of God.

The handbook of instruction

For this earthly sod.

His path is straight and narrow

Without detours on the way.

He’s guided by a compass

So off course he will not stray.

Be Not Afraid ‘Tis I

 “BE NOT AFRAID, ‘Tis I”

By George Thurlow

July 19, 1999

In the midst of struggle,

Overwhelmed on every hand,

Look up and see the Master

Calling “Here I am”.

When life gets rough and stormy

And you’re losing strength and will,

Christ will calm your troubled sea

Commanding “Peace be still”.

If afflicted by disease and pain

And you fear that you might die,

Oh hear Jehovah Rapha state

“Be not afraid, ‘tis I”.

He is our “very present help”

For all trouble in our midst,

Coming to uphold us,

Strengthen and assist.

Stand Still

 STAND STILL

By George Thurlow

©️3/18/2000

Victory’s in sight I know

For its darkest before the dawn.

The direst the circumstance

The nearer the battle won.

God’s timing is intentional,

Designed to strengthen faith.

Good things will surely happen

If on God we’ll only wait.

Deceiving are appearances

Viewed with human eyes;

They make a false impression

On which one should not rely.

When the war intensifies

And the victory looks bleak,

We are at advantage

Though seemingly so weak.

God steps into the battle

With His strength and might,

Then comes the blessed triumph

Received without a fight.

“…Be not afraid nor dismayed by reason of this great multitude; for the battle is not your's, but God's…

…Ye shall not need to fight in this battle: set yourselves, stand ye still, and see the salvation of the LORD with you, O Judah and Jerusalem: fear not, nor be dismayed; to morrow go out against them: for the LORD will be with you.”

Press On

 PRESS ON

By George Thurlow

©️1/1/2000

Press on brother

Another year is through;

Keep on marching forward

For there is much to do.

The harvest fields are ripened,

There are souls to save;

Good intentions are the base coat

On which the road to hell is paved.

Now’s not the time to weaken

When our victory’s in sight.

Press on a little harder;

Work both day and night.

Drowning souls are pleading

From out the sinful seas;

Who is there to rescue

If not you and me?

Press on! The King is coming!

Time is running out.

The Trumpet soon is sounding

Christ’s descending with a shout.

Press on all believers

Now’s not the time to slack.

Keep on marching forward

Never looking back.

Press on all that love Him;

He’s the Lamb who took our place.

Our reward is soon arriving

And we’ll see Christ face to face.

The Rains of Refreshing

 THE RAINS  OF REFRESHING

By George Thurlow

©️July 19, 1999

Outside the rain is falling,

A welcomed, blessed thing…

Showering down from heaven

With a gentle, melodic “ping!”.

Refreshment for the barren ground

Parched and hard as lead.

It’s resurrection powers

Reviving all that’s dead.

And likewise, pours the Spirit’s rain

Saturating souls

Renewing hearts turned hardened

Desiccated, and grown cold.

And those born again of the Spirit

Have the living water deep within,

An ever flowing fountain

Bubbling over and o’er again.

Acts 3:19

“Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord;”

Isaiah 58:11

“And the LORD shall guide thee continually, and satisfy thy soul in drought, and make fat thy bones: and thou shalt be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters fail not.”

John 7:37-39

In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)

Effectual Fervent Prayer

 EFFECTUAL FERVENT PRAYER

By George Thurlow

©️4/30/2001

Elijah on Mount Carmel,

This mighty prophet of faith,

Bowed his head betwixt his knees;

Towards the ground he faced.

With his mantle drawn about him

To shut out sights and sounds,

Intensely focused, deep in prayer,

Swept to higher ground.

He sent his servant out to check

The progress of his prayer.

Glancing out towards the sea

He spotted nothing there.

Go again Elijah spake,

Seven times go out and see.

Behold, arose a little cloud

Coming from the sea.

Ahab, prepare thy chariot

From the mountain get thee down.

My prayer has reached the heavens

Wind and rain is coming ‘round.

The effective fervent prayer

For the righteous much avails,

If one remains persistent

Earnesty will prevail.

Shut out the circumstances,

Don’t let your faith be shook.

Hold up the Word before you

Cling to the promises of the Book.

James 5:16-18 KJV

“…The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months. And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit.”

1 Kings 18: 41-46

41 And Elijah said unto Ahab, Get thee up, eat and drink; for there is a sound of abundance of rain.

42 So Ahab went up to eat and to drink. And Elijah went up to the top of Carmel; and he cast himself down upon the earth, and put his face between his knees,

43 And said to his servant, Go up now, look toward the sea. And he went up, and looked, and said, There is nothing. And he said, Go again seven times.

44 And it came to pass at the seventh time, that he said, Behold, there ariseth a little cloud out of the sea, like a man's hand. And he said, Go up, say unto Ahab, Prepare thy chariot, and get thee down that the rain stop thee not.

45 And it came to pass in the mean while, that the heaven was black with clouds and wind, and there was a great rain. And Ahab rode, and went to Jezreel.

46 And the hand of the Lord was on Elijah; and he girded up his loins, and ran before Ahab to the entrance of Jezreel.

Keep On Keeping On

 KEEP ON KEEPING ON

By George Thurlow

©️5/2/2001

Faint not, faint not my son.

Keep on keeping on.

Even though so weary,

And life sometimes gets dreary,

Keep on keeping on.

For I have won the battle;

So stay right in the saddle.

Don’t let satan get you rattled.

Keep on keeping on.

Faint not, faint not my son,

For joy in the morning comes.

Though the devil’s tongue is mocking;

By faith keep right on walking.

Faint not, faint not my son.

Galatians 6:9

“And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.”

Psalms 30:5

“For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.”

Steadfast

 STEADFAST

By George Thurlow

©️2/28/2001

Steadfast, hold at any cost,

In lest you veer and go off course.

Even when by tempest tossed,

Keep your eyes upon the Cross.

 Keep your bearing straight and true;

The Word of God won’t mislead you.

Don the armor, follow through…

March like soldiers right on cue.

Focus on the Lord each day

And with Him take the time to pray.

Listen more, have less to say.

Let the Spirit lead the way.

Give not the devil any room

His days are numbered, He is doomed.

Prepare yourself, Christ’s coming soon.

Be spotless white before the Groom.

A Strong Tower

                              A STRONG TOWER

By George Thurlow

9/18/2001

Riches were his security,

His faith was in his wealth.

He ignored the One who gave him

Life and breath and health.

One day his foundations were shaken

Having not built upon the rock.

The sand shifted underneath him;

He was overcome with fear and shock.

Destruction all about him…

Collapsed, entire walls.

Oh how a haughty spirit

Precedes a mighty fall.

Once there was a humble man

Who placed his trust in God…

Always making certain

On the narrow path to trod.

He hoarded not vain treasures,

Neither sought for earthly fame.

He built his life on a sure foundation

For he believed on Jesus’ name.

The name of the Lord was his strong tower

Where this righteous one could flee.

Christ was his place of refuge

From the winds of adversity.

The Tower wouldn’t sway or shudder

It weathered well the storm…

For the walls of this strong Tower

Were the mighty arms of God.

Proverbs 18:10

“The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.”

Proverbs 16:18

“Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.”

Matthew 7:24-27

Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: and the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: and the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.
