Pressing On

Pressing On
By George Thurlow
Copyright 1/7/2020

The vision of heaven's Glory,
Is far greater than all our trials,
Empowering to keep striving
And to run that extra mile.

Pressing on towards the mark
To obtain that cherished prize,
Forgetting all behind us
With that goal all focalized.

With concentrated effort,
Making the most of every day,
As good stewards of His blessings
To show the lost the way.

Remembering we are not our own
But have been crucified with Christ,
The temple of the Holy Ghost
To lead surrendered lives.

Pressing on towards that mark
Never looking back
Eyes upon the Savior
To keep us right on track.

Thou Crownest The Year with Thy Goodness

Thou
Crownest the Year with Thy Goodness
By George Thurlow
Copyright 1/1/2020

Thou crownest the year with Thy goodness,
In Your presence blessings flow,
A deluge of satisfaction
Washes away all woes.

You restore to my soul contentment,
In You I am fulfilled,
As a sheep in Your peaceful pasture
I jump joyously on the hills.

You crown this new year with excitement,
My spirit has been renewed,
I'm anticipating victory,
In all I'm called to do.

A new perspective and vision
You have planted in my heart,
My life it is not winding down
But it's only begun to start.

You crownest the year with Thy goodness,
You do every thing so well,
How I love You Abba Father
In your presence I choose to dwell.

Psalms 65:11
Thou crownest the year with thy goodness.

The Flesh and Spirit

Two men's hands pulling opposite ends of rope

The Flesh and the Spirit
By George Thurlow
(C) 10/1/18

How foolish the man who knowingly enters the mire,
And heeds not the warnings, but intentionally conspires
With the flesh to do its bidding, however it directs;
Ignoring the Holy Spirit, not being circumspect.
Oh wretched man there is escape for a way has been provided:
By walking in the Spirit there the heart won't be divided.

Romans 7:14-25 Romans 8:1-15
1 Corinthians 10:13

The God Kind of Faith

The God Kind of Faith

Active Faith,
Stubborn faith,
Faith that won't let go;
Aggressive faith,
Tenacious faith,
Faith with great gusto.

Authoritative faith,
Commanding faith,
Faith that gets things done;
Audacious faith,
Outrageous faith,
That makes the devil run.

Confident faith,
Believing faith,
Knowing how to wield the Sword;
Effective faith,
Expectant faith,
Executing the will of God.

Hold Fast

Hold fast, don't faint my brother
For Christ is at the door,
"We're closer to heaven's portals
Than we ever were before".

Hold fast unto the Word of God,
Don't get "squirmy" in your faith,
Throwing in the towel
So near the finish of the race.

Fix your eyes upon the prize
You are standing on the brink
Of a miracle soon to happen
You're much closer than you think.

Hold fast and do not waver
Be a true soldier of Christ,
Take up the sword of the Spirit,
Live an overcoming life.

Hold fast, don't faint my sister
For Christ is at the door,
"We're closer to heaven's portals
Than we ever were before".

This poem was inspired by Rev. Merle L. Mitchell's sermon Hold Fast preached on 3/18/2018 pm service at Faith Lighthouse Assembly of God in Old Orchard Beach, Maine.
*"We're closer to heaven's portals than we ever were before"
*squirmy salvation".

Christmas Certitude

Christmas Certitude
By George Thurlow

Not just nostalgic moments
Or memories of Christmas past,
The flocking of friends and family
And all the wholesome things like that.

Christmas is far substantial
Than holiday traditions of man:
Its impact is overreaching
With a vast eternal plan.

Christmas speaks of promises
And prophecies fulfilled,
Not just in Christ's first coming,
But even those that await us still.

And like the Sons of Issachar
With understanding of the times,
We too have prophetic insight
And discernment of the signs.

Anticipation charged with Glory
Much like the days of yore,
As we watch and pray like Simeon
Christ coming it is sure.

Christmas is our reminder
That the Word of God is true,
And that Christ is coming back for us
Just like He said He'd do.

Imminent

Imminent
By George Thurlow

Christ's coming...It is imminent
Even at the door,
Events today confirm it
Through God's Word I am assured.

Christ's coming... it is imminent
Nothing standing in the way,
The Blessed Hope our comfort
Gives us courage for today.

Christ's coming...it is imminent
It could happen even now,
Be about the Father's business
Keep your hand upon the plow.

Christ's coming...it is imminent
No veering from the path,
For time it is of essence
To escape the coming wrath.

Christ's coming...it is imminent
Our redemption's nigh,
Soon we'll hear the trumpet's sound
And the Bridegroom's cry!

Christ's coming...It is imminent
Even at the door,
Soon we'll go to be with Him
In our home for ever more!

1 Thessalonians 4:16-18
16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
18 Wherefore comfort one another with these words.

Good Tidings of Great Joy
By George Thurlow

"Good tidings of great joy", pierced the silence of the night;
And the sudden burst of Glory lit the heavens oh so bright.
The mighty host of heaven giving praise to God on high,
Announcing that the Lamb of God to earth had now arrived.

The long-awaited Savior, the promised woman's seed,
The Son of God incarnate came to destroy the devil's deeds.
Good tidings of great joy to all of human kind...
Liberation of all captive souls by sin had been entwined.

Good tidings now for sinners, great joy replacing gloom:
Bad news for the serpent, Christ's birth now signaled doom.
Victory for fallen man...relationship restored,
Access to the Father through Christ the open door.

Good news for this present day for millions still are lost.
The joy and hope of Christmas must be shared at any cost.
The true message of Christmas must be heralded all about
To family, friends and strangers so that they will not miss out.

Luke 2:10-14

10 And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.
11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.
12 And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.
13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,
14 Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men

Feed Your Faith

Feed Your Faith
By George Thurlow
Copyright 12/17/16

Feed your faith oh child of God,
Daily digest the Word...
Spiritually sup, be lifted up
So your faith is always stirred.

For faith it comes by hearing
And hearing by the Word of God...
Scriptural anorexia
Makes your life slipshod.

Gorge and feast oh child of God
On every verse and line.
Eat the Scroll and feed the soul,
It is nourishment divine.

Romans 10:17
"So then faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the Word of God"

Cast Your Cares

Cast Your Cares
By George Thurlow
June 11, 2016

Throw away the Prozac and the Valium;
I offer a prescription for those who feel so glum.
Toss out your Maalox, Rolaids and rolls of Tums;
There's a better way of living, anxiety can not come.
Christ will grant you perfect peace as you fix your mind on Him;
He is the joy of living, the cure for all that's grim.
You won't find Him in a bottle, but yet He's very near.
He's waits for you with open arms and has seen your every tear.
Just cast your cares upon Him and repent of all your sins,
And the Peace which you've been seeking will come to dwell within.

Apathy to Action

Apathy To Action
By George Thurlow
Copyright May 16, 2016
The promise of the Father
Poured out on Pentecost
Still endues mankind with power
To be witnesses for the lost.
From apathy to action,
Changing passive clime,
Transforming the complacent
In a moment's time.
Supernatural equipping
To empower the redeemed,
And embolden all the fearful
Altering the scheme.
But lethargy and laziness
Can so subtly creep in:
Before we even know it
We're doing zilch for Him.
If self-examination
Proves that this be true...
It time for stirring up the gifts
That was given me and you.
It is high time for  revival
This our spirit man requires
A fresh anointing in our lives
With the Holy Ghost and fire.

Acts 1:8
But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
This poem inspired by Rev. M.L Mitchell's sermon called "The Book of Action" and the title derived from his words "apathy to action" .  Sermon delivered on 5/15/16 pm service at Faith Lighthouse Assembly of God Old Orchard Beach, Maine.

With Eyes Of Faith

With Eyes Of Faith
By George Thurlow

Copyright May 16, 2016

With eyes of faith I call it done,
My God is not aloof.
I trust His Word and that's enough;
I need no further proof.

With eyes of faith I have it now
Before it manifests:
For God is faithful...God is true
Laying every doubt to rest.

With eyes of faith my God is pleased
And hears His child's request:
Rewarding those who choose to seek
Him with all diligence.

With eyes of faith I will pursue
Not trusting sight or feelings:
Faith is heaven's currency
For all the Kingdom's dealings.

With eyes of faith I will believe:
  It's the Christian's way of living;
For all the blessings promised me
Through faith by God is given.

 Hebrews 11:1
Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

Hebrews 11:6
But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

Loaded

Loaded
By George Thurlow

Copyright May 2, 2016

Thanks to Jesus I am loaded;
I lack in not a thing.
I'm not laded down with burdens,
But blessings from the King.

These benefits are promised
To those who will believe.
He forgiveth all iniquities
And healeth all disease.

He redeemeth lives from destruction
And saves the trodden down.
He satisfies the mouth with good things,
With His loving kindness crowns.

He loads us daily down with benefits,
And in merciful tenderness:
Executes His righteous judgment
For all who are oppressed.

Psalm 103:1-6
103 Bless the Lord, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name.
Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits:
Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases;
Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies;
Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle's.
The Lord executeth righteousness and judgment for all that are oppressed.

Psalm 68:19
19 Blessed be the Lord, who daily loadeth us with benefits, even the God of our salvation.

The Testimony of Joy

 The Testimony of Joy
By George Thurlow

Copyright March 4, 2016

Joy is a testimony
Bearing witness of our faith,
When the glow of a contented spirit
Beams brightly on the face.

Joy is everlasting
Because of Jesus Christ:
Happiness is fleeting
Based on the happenings of life.

Joy is the fruit of the Spirit
That bubbles up within,
Stemming from peace with knowing
The soul's set free from sin.

The joy of the Lord is the believer's strength
To run this earthly race:
A supernatural gladness
Bestowed by God's own grace.

Joy is evident in Christians
Even in the worst of trials
By the glory given Jesus
Through our praises and our smiles.

Nehemiah 8:10
Do not grieve, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.

Galatians 5:22-23
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23
Meekness, temperance against such there is no law.

1 Peter 1:8
...ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory.

Romans 14:17
For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.

Proverbs 17;22
A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones.

The Outpouring

The Outpouring
By George Thurlow

Copyright November 12, 1996

Row by row a sea of heads
Wall to wall they stand,
Swarming in to seek the Lord...
The resurrected from the dead.

Guided by the Spirit
They've come to find the light,
And discovered now a beacon
Shining in the night.

Slain bodies at the altar,
Some prostrate or kneeling down...
Worshipping the Savior
In the new life they have found.

Angelic music fills the air
And messages in tongues...
Glorious exaltation
In the new words that are sung.

God's pouring out His Spirit,
All are bathing in the Oil,
Drinking of the New Wine
And relishing the spoils!

Broken bodies now are being healed,
The crippled no longer lame...
Those who have been suffering
At last are free from pain.

Emotional burdens lifted,
Tears of joy fill every eye
For the Father's throne is reached
He has heard His children's cries.

Come now, all is ready,
Get underneath the spout...
For the Promise of the Father
Right now is pouring out!

Acts 2:1-4

And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.
And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.
And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.
And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
