Time Will Be No More

 TIME WILL BE NO MORE

By George Thurlow

©️August 17, 1998

There are no clocks in heaven

For time it is no more…

No schedules, dates, or deadlines

Over on the golden shore.

Calendars are not needed,

We’ll need not flip the page

Or punch the office time clock

To receive a weekly wage.

No more the dreadful ringing

Of the alarm to wake us up

Or be stalled in evening traffic

With workers bound for sup.

The cuckoo clock will silence,

There’ll be no tolling of the bell;

We have stepped into eternity

No longer “time will tell”.

*Poem inspired by Rev. Merle L. Mitchell’s

words “There are no clocks in heaven” preached on 8/16/1998 in the evening service at Faith Lighthouse Assembly of God, Old Orchard Beach, Maine.

Keep Me True

 KEEP ME TRUE

By George Thurlow

©️September 8, 1998

If there were heavenly limitations

On how much that one could pray…

If petitions were restricted

To only one a day…

Then the only thing I’d ask for

Is to keep me free from sin,

And to help me lead a holy life

Pleasing unto Him.

I’d only ask to walk with Christ

And to stay right near His side:

Continually in His presence

And under His wings abide.

Many things that I could ask for…

And so much I could pursue,

But my prayer would be dear Jesus

To your name help me stay true.

1 Corinthians 4:2

A Time For Shaking

 A TIME FOR SHAKING

By George Thurlow

©️February 10, 1999

We need a time of shaking …

In our hearts a reawakening…

For we have been forsaking…

What the Lord commands.

All the while that we’ve been snoozing…

The Kingdom has been loosing…

For the blind are wrongly choosing…

Of the devil’s hand.

It’s time we were repenting…

And our knees humbly bending…

So the Lord could do some mending…

In our hearts and lives.

We need to change priorities…

And get under Christ’s authority…

For He’s our only surety…

For all that lies ahead.

Start trusting and obeying…

Spend time each day in praying…

Heed what the Bible’s saying…

And live a holy life.

Then Christ will send His power…

So over the enemy we can tower…

And win souls these final hours…

In glorious victory!

Luke 2:49

“And he said unto them, How is it that ye sought me? Wist ye not that I must be about my Father's business?”

Matthew 28:18-20

And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

I Would Rather Live By Faith

 I WOULD RATHER LIVE BY FAITH

By George Thurlow

July 19, 1999

I would rather live by faith

In the middle of it all;

Enjoying all the blessings

He promised would befall.

I would rather live by faith

Where His power is displayed,

And bear witness to the miracles

Answered when one prays…

And not be a sorry spectator

Huddled in the stands.

But a player seeing action

Experienced first hand.

I would rather live by faith

And see what will ensue

Through obedience and trusting

There’s no telling what God will do!

Real Men Ask Directions

 REAL MEN ASK DIRECTIONS

By George Thurlow

June 18, 1999

A real man asks directions

On the way that he should go.

He is not proud and haughty;

God’s will he seeks to know.

He never blindly jumps ahead

Stumbling down the trail…

If the Lord does not go with him

All his efforts would surely fail.

But he consults a roadmap,

The written Word of God.

The handbook of instruction

For this earthly sod.

His path is straight and narrow

Without detours on the way.

He’s guided by a compass

So off course he will not stray.

Proverbs 3:5-6

Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; And lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, And he shall direct thy paths.

Be Not Afraid ‘Tis I

 “BE NOT AFRAID, ‘Tis I”

By George Thurlow

July 19, 1999

In the midst of struggle,

Overwhelmed on every hand,

Look up and see the Master

Calling “Here I am”.

When life gets rough and stormy

And you’re losing strength and will,

Christ will calm your troubled sea

Commanding “Peace be still”.

If afflicted by disease and pain

And you fear that you might die,

Oh hear Jehovah Rapha state

“Be not afraid, ‘tis I”.

He is our “very present help”

For all trouble in our midst,

Coming to uphold us,

Strengthen and assist.

georgethurlow.blogspot.com

Psalms 46:1

“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.”

John 6:20

“But he saith unto them, It is I; be not afraid.”

Stand Still

 STAND STILL

By George Thurlow

©️3/18/2000

Victory’s in sight I know

For its darkest before the dawn.

The direst the circumstance

The nearer the battle won.

God’s timing is intentional,

Designed to strengthen faith.

Good things will surely happen

If on God we’ll only wait.

Deceiving are appearances

Viewed with human eyes;

They make a false impression

On which one should not rely.

When the war intensifies

And the victory looks bleak,

We are at advantage

Though seemingly so weak.

God steps into the battle

With His strength and might,

Then comes the blessed triumph

Received without a fight.

Exodus 14:13

And Moses said unto the people, Fear ye not, stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD, which he will shew to you to day: for the Egyptians whom ye have seen to day, ye shall see them again no more for ever.

2 Chronicles 20: 15-18

“…Be not afraid nor dismayed by reason of this great multitude; for the battle is not your's, but God's…

…Ye shall not need to fight in this battle: set yourselves, stand ye still, and see the salvation of the LORD with you, O Judah and Jerusalem: fear not, nor be dismayed; to morrow go out against them: for the LORD will be with you.”

Press On

 PRESS ON

By George Thurlow

©️1/1/2000

Press on brother

Another year is through;

Keep on marching forward

For there is much to do.

The harvest fields are ripened,

There are souls to save;

Good intentions are the base coat

On which the road to hell is paved.

Now’s not the time to weaken

When our victory’s in sight.

Press on a little harder;

Work both day and night.

Drowning souls are pleading

From out the sinful seas;

Who is there to rescue

If not you and me?

Press on! The King is coming!

Time is running out.

The Trumpet soon is sounding

Christ’s descending with a shout.

Press on all believers

Now’s not the time to slack.

Keep on marching forward

Never looking back.

Press on all that love Him;

He’s the Lamb who took our place.

Our reward is soon arriving

And we’ll see Christ face to face.

1 Thessalonians 4:16-18

For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore comfort one another with these words.

The Rains of Refreshing

 THE RAINS  OF REFRESHING

By George Thurlow

©️July 19, 1999

Outside the rain is falling,

A welcomed, blessed thing…

Showering down from heaven

With a gentle, melodic “ping!”.

Refreshment for the barren ground

Parched and hard as lead.

It’s resurrection powers

Reviving all that’s dead.

And likewise, pours the Spirit’s rain

Saturating souls

Renewing hearts turned hardened

Desiccated, and grown cold.

And those born again of the Spirit

Have the living water deep within,

An ever flowing fountain

Bubbling over and o’er again.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
georgethurlow.blogspot.com
Acts 3:19
“Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord;”
Isaiah 58:11
“And the LORD shall guide thee continually, and satisfy thy soul in drought, and make fat thy bones: and thou shalt be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters fail not.”
John 7:37-39
In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)
Effectual Fervent Prayer
 EFFECTUAL FERVENT PRAYER
By George Thurlow
©️4/30/2001
Elijah on Mount Carmel,
This mighty prophet of faith,
Bowed his head betwixt his knees;
Towards the ground he faced.
With his mantle drawn about him
To shut out sights and sounds,
Intensely focused, deep in prayer,
Swept to higher ground.
He sent his servant out to check
The progress of his prayer.
Glancing out towards the sea
He spotted nothing there.
Go again Elijah spake,
Seven times go out and see.
Behold, arose a little cloud
Coming from the sea.
Ahab, prepare thy chariot
From the mountain get thee down.
My prayer has reached the heavens
Wind and rain is coming ‘round.
The effective fervent prayer
For the righteous much avails,
If one remains persistent
Earnesty will prevail.
Shut out the circumstances,
Don’t let your faith be shook.
Hold up the Word before you
Cling to the promises of the Book.
georgethurlow.blogspot.com
James 5:16-18 KJV
“…The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months. And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit.”
1 Kings 18: 41-46
41 And Elijah said unto Ahab, Get thee up, eat and drink; for there is a sound of abundance of rain.
42 So Ahab went up to eat and to drink. And Elijah went up to the top of Carmel; and he cast himself down upon the earth, and put his face between his knees,
43 And said to his servant, Go up now, look toward the sea. And he went up, and looked, and said, There is nothing. And he said, Go again seven times.
44 And it came to pass at the seventh time, that he said, Behold, there ariseth a little cloud out of the sea, like a man's hand. And he said, Go up, say unto Ahab, Prepare thy chariot, and get thee down that the rain stop thee not.
45 And it came to pass in the mean while, that the heaven was black with clouds and wind, and there was a great rain. And Ahab rode, and went to Jezreel.
46 And the hand of the Lord was on Elijah; and he girded up his loins, and ran before Ahab to the entrance of Jezreel.
Keep On Keeping On
 KEEP ON KEEPING ON
By George Thurlow
©️5/2/2001
Faint not, faint not my son.
Keep on keeping on.
Even though so weary,
And life sometimes gets dreary,
Keep on keeping on.
For I have won the battle;
So stay right in the saddle.
Don’t let satan get you rattled.
Keep on keeping on.
Faint not, faint not my son,
For joy in the morning comes.
Though the devil’s tongue is mocking;
By faith keep right on walking.
Faint not, faint not my son.
“And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.”
Psalms 30:5
“For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.”
Steadfast
 STEADFAST
By George Thurlow
©️2/28/2001
Steadfast, hold at any cost,
In lest you veer and go off course.
Even when by tempest tossed,
Keep your eyes upon the Cross.
 Keep your bearing straight and true;
The Word of God won’t mislead you.
Don the armor, follow through…
March like soldiers right on cue.
Focus on the Lord each day
And with Him take the time to pray.
Listen more, have less to say.
Let the Spirit lead the way.
Give not the devil any room
His days are numbered, He is doomed.
Prepare yourself, Christ’s coming soon.
Be spotless white before the Groom.
A Strong Tower
                              A STRONG TOWER
By George Thurlow
9/18/2001
Riches were his security,
His faith was in his wealth.
He ignored the One who gave him
Life and breath and health.
One day his foundations were shaken
Having not built upon the rock.
The sand shifted underneath him;
He was overcome with fear and shock.
Destruction all about him…
Collapsed, entire walls.
Oh how a haughty spirit
Precedes a mighty fall.
Once there was a humble man
Who placed his trust in God…
Always making certain
On the narrow path to trod.
He hoarded not vain treasures,
Neither sought for earthly fame.
He built his life on a sure foundation
For he believed on Jesus’ name.
The name of the Lord was his strong tower
Where this righteous one could flee.
Christ was his place of refuge
From the winds of adversity.
The Tower wouldn’t sway or shudder
It weathered well the storm…
For the walls of this strong Tower
Were the mighty arms of God.
Proverbs 18:10
“The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.”
Proverbs 16:18
“Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.”
Matthew 7:24-27
Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: and the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: and the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.
If Today Was The Tomorrow
 If Today Was The Tomorrow
By George Thurlow
©️6/27/2001
If today was the tomorrow
You thought would never come,
And instead of then rejoicing
You were fear stricken and numb.
If the time had come appointed you
In which you were to die,
And you were ushered into eternity
With just a blink of the eye…
Discovering your soul then wasn’t ready
And your heart, it wasn’t right…
Finding yourself in a living nightmare
With no escape in sight.
If all you had to plead your cause-
“I was a church going man”,
“A good citizen, and hard worker”,
“I even helped my fellow man”.
If all you had to make your case
Was the good deeds you performed,
And a list of all the iniquities
You proudly abstained from.
Do you think that you’d gain entrance
In through the pearly gates
If those who were still living
Prayed enough and paid the rate?
If there truly was another way
Christ need not of paid the price,
And to trust in your own righteousness
Just cheapens His sacrifice.
If today was the tomorrow
You thought would never come,
Would Christ now bid you welcome
Would He say to you “Well done”?
Prepare to meet your Maker.
You must be born again.
Receive a brand new nature,
Let Him wash away your sins.
Open up your heart to Him;
Receive eternal life...
Then when that day appointed comes
You’ll dwell in Paradise.
georgethurlow.blogspot.com
John 3:3-7
Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born? Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.
Am I Rapture Ready?
                         AM I RAPTURE READY?
By George Thurlow
©️10/30/2001
I awoke this morning
With a question on my mind
Am I Rapture ready?
How’s this heart of mine?
In a twinkling would I be taken
At the trumpet sound?
Or would I find the weight of sin
Held me to the ground?
Only holiness can enter in
Am I purest white?
Has every nook and cranny
Been examined by the light?
Does the Spirit bear me witness?
Do I feel a peace within?
Or do I have a troubled soul
Because of secret sin?
Examine my heart dear Spirit
Search it through and through
Point out to me whatever’s wrong
Or is grieving you.
Make me Rapture ready
Keep me clean and pure
I’ll give diligence to my calling
So my election will be sure.
“Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall:”
My God Is Real
 MY GOD IS REAL
By George Thurlow
©️12/31/2002
Some say You are just a myth;
Others say You don’t exist.
While others yet, You’re just a crutch,
For weaklings, dolts and those as such.
But I say that You are real
And Your presence I can feel.
You give me poems and songs to write
During fellowship of early light.
And down at church, just you and me,
I sit and listen quietly …
I feel your touch which brings the tears
For your Holy presence is so near.
Since knowing You I’m rarely down
And seldom ever wear a frown…
And when I do, I have  a look
And find you there inside The Book.
You give me Words that cheer my soul
More precious than all gems or gold.
I love this life of simple faith
Walking, trusting in your Grace.
And I know the day which is to come,
After that my race is run,
That I will see you face to face
And You’ll welcome me with warm embrace.
Tomorrow
TOMORROW
By George Thurlow
©️1/2/2004
Destructive, deadly, dangerous
Such an innocent, deceptive word…
Tomorrow, “I’ll wait till tomorrow”,
The last words ever heard.
“There are things I want to do today”;
“I don’t want Jesus to get in the way”.
“There will be time for Him another day;
  Right now I’ll do my thing.”
  Slowly slipping, subtly sliding,
  Yet thinking all is well.
  Tomorrow, yes tomorrow
   While descending into hell.
  Then tomorrow is suddenly taken;
  Dreams and plans are hastily shaken.
  No time left to awaken,
  Another soul is snatched away.
Hebrews 3:15
“While it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation.”
Isaiah 55:6-7
Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near: let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.
Things Are Not As They Appear
THINGS ARE NOT AS THEY APPEAR
By George Thurlow
©️4/17/2002
Things are not as they appear;
Trust not in what you see.
A dismal scene the devil paints
To discourage you and me.
Things are not as they appear
On that, let faith reside.
For underneath the canvas
Victory is nigh.
Do not be duped by circumstance;
Deceit is satan’s tool.
God will turn the tables;
Guess who will play the fool?
Things are not as they appear,
Now obscured by mist and haze.
Wait on the Lord, be patient,
And soon you’ll be amazed!
