How Shall We Do?

How Shall We Do?

Surrounded by the enemy,
Encompassed round about,
The servant of Elisha
Began to quake and doubt.

"Oh master how then shall we do?",
Strickened with great fear:
Fixated on the numbers,
How the circumstance appeared.

Elisha spoke, "Fear not for they
With us are even more
Than those who be against us",
To his servant reassured.

Elisha called upon the Lord
 "Pray, open up his eyes":
Then round about the ridge he saw
A host of greater size.

Horses stood throughout the mount,
 Fierce chariots of fire:
Ready to defend the men
If the Lord required.

So Christians don't be frightened
And feel so overwhelmed;
The same army's at attention
In the spiritual realm.

God's eyes are ever watching,
 Christ is the Lord of Hosts;
He'll surely deliver His children
Indwelt by the Holy Ghost.

Through Christ we shall do valiantly*
We are children of the King
Covered in His precious Blood
Victorious in everything!

 2 Kings 6:15-17
15 And when the servant of the man of God was risen early, and gone forth, behold, an host compassed the city both with horses and chariots. And his servant said unto him, Alas, my master! how shall we do?
16 And he answered, Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them.
17 And Elisha prayed, and said, Lord, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And the Lord opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha.

Psalm 108:13
*13 Through God we shall do valiantly: for he it is that shall tread down our enemies.

This poem was inspired by Rev. M.L. Mitchell's sermon "We Have Help" delivered in the evening service October 18, 2015 at Faith Lighthouse Assembly of God, Old Orchard Beach, Maine.

Is This Not The Hour?

Is This Not The Hour?
By George Thurlow

Is this not the hour
Of which we've always heard;
The beginning of the sorrows
Foretold in God's own Word?

Is this not the hour
For the sounding of the trump?
Are these not the birth pangs
Not the usual trials and bumps?

Are not the signs converging,
 Increased in intensity?
Distress among the nations
With great perplexity?

Signs in the sun, the moon and stars
Violence throughout the earth:
Jerusalem now a burdensome stone
Soon after Israel's birth?

Famines, plague's and earthquakes
And these are not a few:
False teachers and false prophets
Lead the undiscerned askew.

Is this not the day and time
To make it right with God
To get your sins forgiven
 Be washed in Christ's own Blood?

Is this not the hour
To be absolutely sure
You have reserved a home in heaven
Where your soul will be secure?

2 Corinthians 6:2
(For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.)

Hosea 10:12
12 Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap in mercy; break up your fallow ground: for it is time to seek the Lord, till he come and rain righteousness upon you.

The Beauty of His Presence

The Beauty of His Presence

My eyes feast upon the beauty
Of the golden marsh,
In the season of transition
Before the winter harsh.

The panoply of autumn tints
Against the azure sky;
Excited honks of Canada geese
Making their southward fly.

Great blue herons fishing still
On the banks of teeming ponds.
Snowy egrets fan their wings
Like the waving of a frond.

Captivated by God's artistry
Enveloped by His love,
I'm swept into communion
With my Creator from above.

In this "garden" we have fellowship;
It becomes a Holy place.
I'm surrounded by your presence
As I seek your face.

This poem was written while enjoying morning fellowship with the Lord at
Goosefare Brook. The brisk autumn air coupled with the brilliant colors and feathered friends was the perfect setting to chat with the Lord and enjoy His presence.
Thank you Holy Spirit!

Kick The "T" Off Can't

Kick The "T" Off Can't*
By George Thurlow

Copyright February 3, 1996

There's a word that should be banished,
From the dictionary be left out.
It's a word of negativity,
Lack of faith and doubt.

It's goes against all Scripture.
It's truly unbelief.
It hinders the Holy Spirit's
Power from being released.

It's ignorance of God's promises
And reveals there is no trust:
For we can do all things through Jesus
Our Lord Who strengthens us.*

It's a word of just four letters
That never should be heard
Coming from a Christian
Who should believe in God's own Word.

It's the simple phrase "I can't"
That puts roadblocks in the way;
Keeps one from doing Jesus' will
Each and every day.

Whenever we state it can't be done
It shows unfaithfulness.
We must repent upon our knees
And to Jesus Christ confess.

For nothing is impossible
If we do not doubt:
For God has promised in His Word
To help His children out.

This four letter word, let's now remove
Never to be heard again:
For we are children of the King
And to do all things we can!

*Philippians 4:13
"I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me".

*"Kick the "t" off can't" is a phrase often spoken by my Pastor, Rev. Merle L. Mitchell and was the inspiration behind this poem.
Thanks Pastor!

How Could I Not Praise You!

How Could I Not Praise You!

How could I not praise you Lord
Your presence envelops me;
And the beauty of your Holiness
Is reflected in all I see.

How could I not praise you Lord
When you give me every breath.
Without you Lord, there is no life
Only hell and death.

How could I not praise you Lord
When I'm filled with thee.
You loved me when unlovable
When I was still your enemy.

How could I not praise you Lord
When you fill my life with joy;
And took away my hurt and pain,
Gave me reason to rejoice.

How could I not praise you Lord,
You've become my everything.
I delight in being a child of God
And giving myself to thee.

How could I not praise you Lord
For your promises are sure;
Someday I shall be like you
Holy, righteous, pure.

How could I not praise you Lord
Just for being who you are:
The mighty King of Heaven
Full of glory, strength and power.

How could I not praise you Lord,
You have made my heart so glad;
I can come to you with every need
What a loving awesome dad!

Faint, Yet Pursuing

Faint, Yet Pursuing

Are you growing weary
In the fight of faith?
Exhausted from the battle?
Dreary from the race?

Do you feel like quitting?
Surrendering to the foe?
Throwing in the towel?
No get up and go?

Keep on marching forward!
Keep on pressing on!
Though weary keep pursuing
Just like Gideon.*

In Christ there is endurance.
In Christ you'll go the length.
In Christ you have the victory,
Through His grace and strength.

Brother keep pursuing;
The finish line is near.
Sister keep contending;
Christ is almost here!

Judges 8:4
"And Gideon came to Jordan, and passed over, he, and the three hundred men that were with him, faint, yet pursuing them".

Galatians 6:9
"And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not".

Have You Received The Holy Ghost?

Have You Received The Holy Ghost?
By George Thurlow

Copyright October 3, 2015

Have you received the power
Of the Baptism from on high?
Have you received the Holy Ghost
That is promised to you and I?

Have you spoke with other tongues?
Have the Promise you pursued?
Have you obeyed the Lord's command
With power  be endued?

God will send His Spirit
To each believer who will ask:
It's the anointing for every calling,
The strength for every task.

It's power to be a witness,
Power to win a soul,
 Power packed with spiritual gifts
When you give Him complete control.

Be filled with the Holy Spirit.
Keep bubbling deep within:
Be equipped to do Christ's bidding
Meet to be used of Him.

Acts 1:4-5, 8
And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me.
For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence.

But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

Acts 2:39
For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

Acts 19:2
He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed?
